Summer is here. Finally and yes! We’re also lucky that so many restrictions are lifted, life can get back to normal, and we can all gather again and enjoy ourselves.
Not everything is “back” because decisions to put on concerts and events are usually made in the winter, when we were all dealing with lockdowns and restrictions, but tweaks have been made and there are some replacements, which might turn into new favourites.
Summer Market Series: The Downtown Woodstock Business Improvement Area is doing a lot of work. In place of the Summer Streetfest, which was paused for 2022, the BIA is putting on biweekly pop-up markets in Museum Square. There promises to be live music, vendors, and other entertainment, to draw you into the shops and services in Woodstock’s downtown. The markets are running from 12:00pm – 7:00pm June 2, 16, 30, July 14 and 28, August 11 and 25, and September 8 and 22. Learn more here: https://www.downtownwoodstock.ca/
Upper Thames Brewing Company: Located at 225 Bysham Park Drive, Woodstock, you can pick up beer direct, have pint and buy merchandise. Upper Thames makes small batch, high-quality beer. They literally brew it in-house and you’ll probably bump into one of their brewers. Our favourite is the Portage, India Pale Ale, but you can do your own taste testing. UTBC has lots of entertainment, trivia nights, pop-up vendors, and reasons to stop by. Check out their website for upcoming events: https://upperthamesbrewing.ca/
Art in Victoria Par: Has a nice ring to it! On Saturday, July 16 from 2:00pm-9:00pm, join local artists to hear some live entertainment, browse some artisan displays and enjoy food and drinks. Being held at Victoria Park, 413 Buller Street, Woodstock. Closer to the date, check out the schedule which will be listed on the Tour Oxford webpage: https://www.tourismoxford.ca/events_and_experiences/festivals_and_events/art_in_victoria_park.aspx/
Woodstock Nostalgia Show and Sale: Happening Sunday, September 11th from 9:30am-3:00pm at the Oxford Auditorium and MutualMarket Buildings, 875 Nellis Street, Woodstock, come and take a look at all sorts of memorabilia. There will be vintage toys, country store items, paper, Coca-Cola collectibles, vinyl records, vintage dolls, fishing, and hunting memorabilia. Why not do something different and bring the family.
Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese: We include this in our “to-do” list for most summer drives. It’s just darn good cheese and we could all use that sometimes. Located at 445172 Gunn’s Hill Road, Woodstock, Gunn’s Hill has a great reputation for their handmade cheeses. Check them out: https://www.gunnshillcheese.ca/. Gunn’s Hill offers online shopping for its cheeses, or you can pick up at their cheese shop. We enjoy grabbing some different beers at Upper Thames Brewing Company and pairing them with different cheeses. You can put together a pretty upscale picnic with very little effort.
Summer 2022 is the summer of returning to normal! Remember folks, shop local, try something new, and let’s support each other!
